On Sunday, the 16th of March, the rowing club took part in the Gloucester Rowing Club Spring Head race, where they had great success. It has been a long journey for many of the members, especially those who, before September, had never rowed before in their lives. The countless hours of training each week all became worthwhile at the end of the day.

The first of our crews racing that day was the novice crew, consisting of Imogen Bell, Mel Cockayne, Will Short and Zach Moores. In the weeks leading up to the event, it was planned for them to go out there and, no matter what, just enjoy themselves, the result didn’t matter as it was only their first race. But they did more than that, they went out and won. After facing opposition from a strong crew from the University of Bournemouth, they held strong and made everyone very proud by securing the victory.

The second event of the day was in the afternoon, where we had Heidi Taylor racing in the women’s 1x category. Heidi is arguably the most experienced rower we have and put all the experience she had to good use, racing hard and smart to record UoG its second victory of the day.

As a whole, this is a very proud day for the club; we are proud of each and everyone who was involved in the day’s events and looking forward to keeping up our current momentum leading into BUCS Regatta in May.
