The Sport Arena was filled with anticipation this week as international students took on the Men’s Football 2’s in a closely contested and enjoyable football match. In a game that highlighted unity, sportsmanship, and the diverse spirit of the student community, the international student team secured a narrow 4-3 victory.

The match showcased teamwork and determination from both sides. The international team faced an initial challenge due to a few complications in their squad, but the Men’s Football 1’s kindly stepped in to ensure they had a full team. What followed was a competitive and engaging game, with both teams putting in strong performances. Spectators enjoyed an exciting display of skill, teamwork, and enthusiasm from all involved.

This initiative was led by Bobola Ajibola, the Welfare & Diversity Officer, whose aim was to bring different UoG communities together through sport. A special thanks also goes to Beck Bennett, our Sports Development Coordinator, and Drew Humphry, our Student Voice and Campaigns Coordinator, for their support in making this event happen. Additionally, a special thanks to Ivor Gumm for coaching the session and helping guide the players throughout the match.

The match was more than just a game—it was an opportunity to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and the ability of sport to connect students from different backgrounds. Seeing players from various cultures come together on the pitch was a great reflection of the University of Gloucestershire’s commitment to an inclusive student environment where everyone feels welcome.

A big thank you to the Men’s Football 2’s for their effort and sportsmanship, helping to create an enjoyable and competitive match. Whether playing or supporting from the sidelines, the energy and involvement from everyone made it a great experience.

This event was just the start, and we look forward to more opportunities where sport can continue to bring our diverse student community together. Well played to all!
