We are thrilled to say that our Welcome Back events were a fantastic success! It was wonderful to see so many members of the UoG community come together to celebrate the start of a new term, reconnect with old friends, and make new ones.
We kicked off with the Welcome Back Fayre, where our clubs and societies took center stage. New students had the opportunity to explore and sign up for various clubs and societies, while existing members showcased everything they have to offer. Since the September Fayre, we have established five new societies and one new club, making this event the perfect opportunity for them to introduce themselves to the wider student community.
Next up was our popular mug painting event, which provided a relaxed and creative space for students to unwind, enjoy snacks, and get to know each other. It was fantastic to see the incredible designs students came up with, and even better to witness the mix of new and returning students engaging with each other in such a fun way.
Another highlight of our Welcome Back series was the Swap Shop, which exceeded all expectations! Thanks to the generosity of the UoG community, we received an abundance of donated items, helping students refresh their wardrobes and supplies while promoting sustainability. In fact, we only brought back two bags of items, demonstrating the overwhelming success of the initiative. The Swap Shop not only showcased our commitment to sustainability but also reinforced the support we offer for students facing the cost-of-living challenges.
Diversity Night 4.0 led by our Welfare and Diversity Officer Bobola took place on Thursday evening bringing together students from all around the globe who make up our amazing community at UoG. Over 150 attendees enjoyed food, performances, singing and more as well as learning more about the services at the university.
We also hosted an afternoon tea party that was SUPER well attended! It was fantastic to see so many different communities of UOG coming together to enjoy the event, including international students, mature students, and even staff! The warm and welcoming atmosphere made it a truly special gathering.
