Welcome 2024 took a fresh approach, putting students in the spotlight with more society-led events than ever before! Instead of the usual SU-planned two-week lineup, the second week featured collaborations with student societies, helping them stay active well beyond the Welcome Fayre. This gave new students more chances to dive into campus life and discover what UoG societies have to offer early in their time at UoG and don’t forget – there’s still time to join a society or a sports team.

Some standout events included FrogSpawn, hosted by the Music Society at the popular Frog and Fiddle, where new students could perform in a First Year Showcase. The Christian Union held a live music night at The Loft, FCH, with food and a relaxed atmosphere for students to meet the society. The Art Society’s Tote Bag Making session at Pittville Student Village attracted 80 students, far exceeding their usual attendance. The Performing Arts Society ran a fun Murder Mystery night on Oxstalls Campus, and the Nintendo Society brought students together with a Mario Kart competition at Park.

The SU also kept things lively with Drag Night, featuring Misty Monique, and Diversity Night 3.0 hosted by Bobola, an event where students from the whole UoG community could connect with university support teams and enjoy food. A #TEAMGLOS quiz led by Ness challenged students on their knowledge of UoG clubs and societies.

The highlight of Welcome was (as usual) the Fayre, dubbed the best in a decade and held on a blazing hot day at Park campus. It was an amazing day with Activity Zones for societies to show off their talents, live performances from bands and dancers, and plenty of opportunities for students to meet new people and explore what UoG has to offer. There’s always loads going on so keep an eye on our socials and events pages to stay in the loop!
