A rowing machine and your head. Your worst enemy - yourself; your best time. Stroke by stroke you seem to never get closer to the end goal. Your body hurting in places you never knew existed, yet you carry on; this is our sport, this is rowing.Â

Amongst 400 other compeitors from the likes of UWE, Bristol, Bath, Cardiff stood our team, small but mighty - flying the blue and blue colours; Crew Glos were ready to race. Our first races of the day - the openweight mens and womens 2k. Our senior members hitting up the opportunity to show the novices how its done. Excellent performances from Joe Lees (7:01.6) & Jack Heaver (6:37.5) followed by equally impressive times by Captain Georgie (7:54.7) & Secretary Alice (8:16.0).Â

Next up - our first year rowers, showing everything that they have learnt in the past couple of weeks. 1k was the distance. It may be half the distance of the seniors, but it is far from half the race; and every bit as difficult. First up the lads; Jack George (3:37.3), Jamie Cooper (3:12.6) and Harry Morris (3:37.2). Excellent effort by all the lads - making some big strokes - Jamie was winning his race for the vast majority only to be taken in the last 150m (12 strokes!) Next up our new ladies - Lizzy (4:12.8), Julia (4:17.4), Annie (4:05.1) Zoe (3:48.2), Sam  (4:12.1), Katie (4:12.5) & Florence (3:57.2). Again amazing achievements by all the ladies - shaving some serious times of personal bests.Â

We had one more person rowing in the mens 1k and with a time of 3:01.4 not only was he the fastest in his race, but the fastest of all the competitors on the day winning GOLD for Crew Glos. So congratulations to Thomas Anderson; great achievement.

The last couple of races of the day we the relay - and well if you have never seen a relay on a rowing machine its definetly something to be witnessed (so see the video below!). Again some amazing times being made by all the teams (Mens: 5:45.0, Senior Women: 7:38.1 & Fresher Women: 7:50).

That sums up the day. Some amazing achievements made by everyone racing today. Ourselves and the rowing machine.

Blue & Blue,
Rowing Crew
