What is a Course Rep?
A Course Representative (Course Rep) is a student elected by their peers to represent their course or cohort, ensuring your voice is heard at the university. They gather feedback, raise issues with university staff, and work to improve your academic experience. Whether you have suggestions for your course, feedback about lectures, or concerns about resources, your Course Rep is here to listen and act on your behalf.
What Does a Course Rep Do?
Course Reps collect feedback from you and your coursemates on teaching quality, assessments, and access to learning resources. They meet with Course Leaders and university staff to discuss and address student concerns, making sure your voice is heard at every level.
How Can You Work With Your Course Rep?
Stay connected with your Course Rep for updates on meetings, changes, and new initiatives. You can also submit feedback directly through Voice It to help shape your university experience.
Why Is The Role Important?
Course Reps ensure that student voices directly influence decisions that shape your learning experience. They make sure your concerns are heard and actioned, keeping students at the heart of academic changes.
What is a Course Rep?
A Course Rep is a student volunteer elected at the start of the year to represent their peers. They raise issues, provide feedback to university staff, and communicate updates back to students.
Is it the same as a Student Voice Assistant?
No, Student Voice Assistants are hired, not elected. They work across all courses in their school, collecting feedback from Course Reps and ensuring the university takes action.
How many Course Reps are elected per course?
Typically, at least one Course Rep is elected per course per level. Larger courses may have more than one rep to ensure everyone is represented.
What do I get out of it?
As a Course Rep, you’ll gain valuable skills like communication, teamwork, and time management. You’ll also have access to training sessions and the chance to be recognised as Course Rep of the Month.
Is it a big time commitment?
Not at all! You’ll spend a few minutes gathering feedback from your peers, attend a monthly meeting with your Course Leader, and stay in touch with your Student Voice Assistant.
Why do we hold elections?
Elections ensure that all students have a fair opportunity to represent their peers and that the student voice is truly reflective of the student body.
What training is provided?
All elected Course Reps are invited to training sessions and ongoing development events to help them succeed in their role.
